Comfortable and Secure Gun Belts
What should you look for in a gun belt?
A belt-mounted Kydex (or hard) holster, is arguably the safest and most secure method of concealed carry because it allows you to carry at your waist. This is the most natural place to carry a gun for self-defense because you can reach for it without stooping or shifting and a belt that keeps the gun firmly in position.
Because a belt is such a valuable staple in your concealed carry wardrobe make sure you’re using the right type. Here are some benefits of using a concealed carry belt over a regular belt.
Why use a gun belt?
A concealed carry belt is designed to support the weight of your gun and holster, making it much sturdier than the typical belt. They’re typically rigid yet flexible enough to follow the contours of your body.
A regular belt has less structure, which could lead to the gun sagging and tilting away from your body. Also, the normal belt is likely to stretch over time due to the added weight.
Are gun belts comfortable?
Wearing a pistol does take some getting used to so I encourage you to be flexible when giving your belt a chance. Although comfort is subjective and varies from person to person, the belt shouldn't cause you any pain. Your comfort may be impacted by a few factors, including fit, rigidity, and placement.
Fit - Brands may size their belts slightly differently, so before selecting a size, read the company's advice.
Flexibility – The belt should be flexible enough to move with your body but stiff enough to support the weight of a gun. You have the best chance of comfort by striking the right balance.
Placement - Comfort depends on where the belt is placed on your body. Try wearing high-waisted pants to raise the belt if you bruise when it presses against your hipbones.
How thick should a concealed carry belt BE?
The belts listed below are either 1.25" or 1.5" wide, though belt widths can vary. While most belts will function regardless of width, you might consider your belt loops and holster clips.
Most holster clips fit a 1.5 "belt fits without any additional wiggle room. When I attached my holster to one of the 1.25" belts, there was some extra room. This indicates that when drawing a gun, the holster must be raised by a quarter of an inch before resistance is felt and the gun can be pulled out of the holster.
Belt loops on jeans usually measure around 2 inches wide and have plenty of room. Some women's dress pants, however, have narrower loops, so in this case, a 1.25" belt is preferred. While a 1.5-inch belt may work with dress pants loops, an extremely tight fit can strain the material and lead to a tear.
Can I use a gun belt without a gun?
Absolutely! A concealed carry belt will still serve the purpose of keeping your pants up. Additionally, you have the option to attach pepper spray or a holster for a non-lethal self-protection tool.
*Ok, let’s get into the specific belts! (We’ve tried them all).
Belt Comparisons
Groovelife - Groove Belt
$69.95
The Groove Belt is without a doubt the "Stretchiest and Most Comfortable.” Although it is very rigid, it also offers the most flexibility, allowing you to move without feeling constrained. In this design, the extra tail is tucked under the belt, giving it a tidy appearance. The magnetic enclosure on the buckle is easily released by sliding it to the right. This belt's size adjustment is a little trickier, so it's best if you remove it first.
Although it is technically a man's belt, women do wear it. Also, Groove Life values the customer's opinion and if enough female customers make a formal request, the business will consider creating a women's design.
Nexbelt - Supreme Appendix Black 38mm
$61.99
When it comes to "Most Structured," this belt takes the cake. The nylon belt comes in one long band which you cut to your desired size using the markings provided. It features a ratchet system that allows you to get the ideal fit and helps to avoid the appearance of a muffin top. This belt is easy to adjust while wearing. A button on the buckle easily releases the grip to loosen the belt. Since it is 1.5 inches wide, most holster clips will fit snugly, reducing give during the draw.
This belt is actually for men, but it can also be worn by women. Nexbelt has a great selection of pretty and polished belts for women that are also designed for concealed carry.
Tactica Fashion - Floral Embossed Leather Gun Belt
$73.99
The Floral Embossed Leather Gun Belt wins "Most Covert Belt," or the choice that most closely resembles a typical fashion belt. Delicate flowers decorate the genuine leather. The strap is 1.25 inches wide so it doesn't completely fill the holster clip, but it slides easily through the belt loops of women's jeans or dress pants. When drawing your gun, the holster may move a little before resistance is felt and the gun can be pulled out of the holster. Another benefit is that the belt breaks in pretty quickly, a feature that adds comfort.
Cross Breed - Ladies Reversible Carry Belt
$69.95
Given that it can be worn with either the brown or the black side facing out, this belt wins the title of "Most Versatile Dress Belt." The 1.25 leather belt is an excellent choice for dress pants that tend to have small belt loops. There is some wiggle room because most holster clips are larger than the belt, but the holster will still attach securely and won't tilt away from the body. As far as structure goes, this is also one of the stiffest belts.
Klikbelt - 1.5 inch 2-Ply
$84.00
The "Strongest Belt Buckle" is a feature of the 1.5 inch 2-Ply. This is a great concealed carry gun belt because the 2-Ply webbing is made to be rigid in the vertical direction but flexible in the horizontal direction. The cobra belt buckle is the toughest in the world, but it's also simple to unclick.
There are no belt holes, but pulling the tail while wearing it makes it simple to change the size. My belt loops won't fit the belt buckle because it's too big, but you can easily take out one side of the buckle to fit it through the loops. You can select from a variety of color schemes.
Mastermind Tactics - Specialist Pro
$29.99
The Specialist Pro wins the award for "Lowest Profile" belt. This Velcro-sealed nylon belt is surprisingly thin and supportive at the same time. The band is 1.5 inches wide, so most holsters will clip on and not wiggle. No belt holes mean that you can easily adjust it to fit your unique size. It is simple to conceal a gun and prevent printing thanks to the low profile. The fabric is comfortable and has a good balance of stiffness and flexibility, allowing it to fit close to your body without leaving a gap in the back.
Comfort Concealment - Blackout Belt
$37.95
The Blackout Belt is the "Best For Exercising." This belly band / tactical belt hybrid is 1.5 inches wide and allows you to run with your preferred Kydex holster. It also allows you to conceal while wearing clothing without belt loops, such as scrubs, a skirt, leggings, and athletic shorts. An inch of elastic near the Velcro enclosure increases comfort because it allows for movement with your body. Depending on the size you choose, it be worn around your hips or natural waist.
