How to Conceal Carry on a First Date

Many of you have asked about how to conceal carry on a date. The concern I keep hearing is that “if he goes in for a hug, he’ll notice that I’m carrying.” Naturally, as you build trust with someone, you can eventually open up about carrying a firearm. However, before trust is built, you may not want to offer that information.

First, I’ll point out that just because someone gives you a hug, that doesn’t guarantee they’ll notice your gun, however; I suppose it could happen. The most important thing is that you’re confident, so today’s outfit was styled to address this concern.

I choose this dress because you can dress it up or down for almost any occasion. Pictured here is the dressed up version that I paired with strappy heels, a black cross body purse, a gold bracelet and dangling pearl earrings. For a more casual date, I’d wear white sneakers, a ponytail, stud earrings, and a straw purse.

I’m sharing two holster options with this outfit- the Dene Adams thigh holster shorts and a concealed carry purse made by Cameleon Bags. Both options keep the gun away from your torso and hips, making it less likely for someone to accidentally discover.

The Dene Adams thigh holster shorts have a built-in trigger guard and the shorts prevent my legs from chafing, which means they’d still work if your date involves dancing or going for a walk. I prefer carrying on my body to be certain I’m in control of the firearm at all times. Still, a concealed carry purse like this one, can be worn cross-body to keep the gun always within reach.

A few reminders for dating when carrying a firearm..

  1. No alcohol – Is your date at a restaurant or somewhere that serves alcohol? Because it’s illegal to drink and carry a gun, you’ll need decide in advance whether you’d rather consume alcohol or bring your firearm along.

  2. Know where you’re going – This is good to know in advance, not only so you can dress appropriately, but you can also verify that the location allows firearms. If your date wants to surprise you, there are polite ways to insist. For example, “Thank you, but on a first date, I prefer to know where I’m going, that’s just me.”

  3. Have a plan- I don’t necessarily recommend disarming, but if you think you may need (or want) to disarm at any point during the date, you’ll need to have a place to secure your firearm. It’s okay, especially on a first date, to insist on meeting your date at the destination. This way  you can keep a lock-box inside your car to store your gun. Just make sure to bring pepper spray along as an alternative.

Of course, always use situational awareness and have fun!
