Bloom with Confidence: Concealed Carry in Your Spring Wardrobe
Spring is in full swing! This season marks the beginning of bright colors, warmer temperatures, and blooming flowers. If you haven’t already, it’s the perfect time to refresh your wardrobe—whether that means adding a few new pieces or finding new ways to style last year’s favorites!
For the safety-oriented gals, a change in wardrobe calls for a thoughtful approach to concealing your self-defense tool. Keep reading for my best concealed carry tips, Spring wardrobe essentials, holster recommendations, and how to conceal with current fashion trends.
My approach:
My approach to dressing for concealed carry is to build a concealed carry capsule wardrobe for each season. This involves selecting clothing that you can mix and match to prepare a group of outfits that are sure to conceal your firearm.
Use this article as a guide to select items for your own capsule, or to assist in styling a few “go-to” outfits for the season.
Spring Carry: Challenges
The fluctuating temperatures and breezy days common to Spring can complicate concealed carry. For example, your firearm might hide well under a cardigan or jacket in the morning, but as the day warms up, you may need to shed a layer. This may or may not affect your concealment.
On top of that, lightweight and airy fabrics are stylish for Spring, but they can cling or shift in the wind, potentially revealing your firearm’s outline.
As the weather warms up, we also tend to spend more time outdoors. Spring’s social scene, from outdoor picnics to evening strolls, also means more movement and attention, requiring a holster that stays hidden and secure.
Practical Solutions
Fortunately, you can overcome these challenges with intentional choices. To start, it’s helpful to understand the basic concealment principles, and how to make the holster work with your body. Try experimenting with holster placement to ensure your firearm sits flush against your body, staying discreet without extra layers.
When it comes to windy days, incorporate thicker, breathable tops into your wardrobe. I actually designed a top to help with this problem - the concealment camisole is constructed with special panels to reduce printing and boost your confidence.
I also recommend using a concealed carry purse as a backup holster. If you find yourself in a situation where your gun becomes visible, instead of panicking, you can secretly transfer it to the specialized bag.
SPRING WARDROBE ESSENTIALS
T-SHIRTS AND TANKS:
There are many factors that affect concealment, such as the holster you use, how big your firearm is, placement of the gun on your body, and the clothing you choose. From my perspective, some days concealment feels effortless, while others—due to body changes, a hectic morning, or an outfit that doesn’t quite work—can present more of a challenge.
To stay ready for those tougher days, I recommend adding 2-5 “easy concealment tops” to your capsule wardrobe. These are your go-to pieces that reliably conceal your firearm with minimal effort and look great layered under a jacket or sweater.
When shopping for these tops, focus on cut, texture, and pattern. Choose cuts that flatter your body type and provide enough room to hide your firearm, like those I highlight in my article, Best Shirts for Women’s Concealed Carry.
Remember that sizing up could be an option, but while the oversized look is cool on some body types, it has the potential to make others look sloppy.
Equally important, is the use of texture and pattern. These elements can distract the eye and camouflage your firearm’s outline, keeping you discreet.
Wondering if fitted shirts are off-limits? Not at all! With the right setup, you can still conceal your firearm. Pair a fitted shirt with a belly band holster, where the compression often smooths the lines. You could also, try a tight top with a skirt and a thigh holster for on-body carry. If you need extra coverage, add a cardigan for concealment.
LAYERING PIECES
Layers are great for concealment, but make sure your gun doesn’t print if you have to take it off!
To make layering work for your lifestyle, consider the settings you’ll be in—whether it’s a chilly office, an outdoor barbecue, the gym, or a lakeside stroll.
For instance, a light pullover sweater, cardigan, or blazer works beautifully for the office, while a windbreaker is ideal for ballgames, and a hooded rain jacket keeps you covered during outdoor events.
For more polished occasions, like church or a nice outing, a trench coat adds sophistication and concealment. On a beach vacation, a linen button-up shirt can serve as a breezy, stylish layer.
Thoughtfully select versatile layers that you can mix and match to create multiple outfits.
JEANS OR TAILORED PANTS:
Pants are an important base piece for securing your firearm, especially when paired with a sturdy concealed carry belt that supports your firearm’s weight. Check my top picks in Best Concealed Carry Belts for Women.
As for building your capsule wardrobe, the number of pants you include depends on your needs and lifestyle, but there are three pairs I like to recommend: a casual jean for everyday wear, a white denim OR dressy denim for elevated looks, and tailored dress pants for professional or special occasions.
Tip- To update your look, consider a fresh silhouette, like a straight or wide-leg cut, covered later in this article. By curating a thoughtful mix of pants, you’ll create a range of outfits that support concealed carry.
SUNDRESSES & SKIRTS
Sundresses and skirts are versatile staples for everything from work and church to casual outings when you want to look cute with minimal effort. Paired with a thigh holster, these pieces are a breeze to wear, offering discreet concealed carry without the need for extensive styling—truly a one-and-done solution.
When curating your capsule wardrobe, choose dresses and skirts that support a smooth firearm draw. For example, be mindful of skirt linings, crinolines, or flounced hems that might catch or slow your access.
Likewise, overly tight skirts can limit movement, making a quick draw more difficult. To ensure confidence and readiness, practice drawing your firearm with each dress or skirt until you can retrieve it smoothly.
HOLSTERS FITTING FOR SPRING
KYDEX HOLSTER WITH BELT
It’s common to prioritize concealment when choosing a holster, but how accessible your gun is, is even more important. Arguably, appendix carry allows for the quickest and easiest access in case of an emergency. A kydex holster attached to a belt is an example of appendix carry.
By placing the gun in front of your body, you have more control and can protect it from potential threats. Additionally, with arms at your side, your hands are naturally closer to your appendix, making it easier to draw your firearm quickly. Since a kydex holster keeps it’s shape, it’s easy to draw and holster your firearm. Plus, the hard material protects the trigger from accidental discharge.
This setup performs well, however if it feels bulky, try adjusting for better concealment. For example, adding a wing to your holster can help tuck the grip of the gun closer to you. You could also adjust the position by moving the holster along your beltline. Some women prefer the gun on their side, while others conceal better with the holster closer to their bellybutton.
Tip- With concealment dialed in, you may be able to conceal under fitted or semi-fitted shirts. Otherwise, pair this holster with your “easy concealment tops” from the ‘Spring Essentials’ section above.
BELTLESS RECEIVER
The Neomag beltless receiver is a unique, belt-free holster attachment that I'm currently testing. It secures your preferred Kydex holster to a flexible band that conforms to your body's curves.
The band features two Ulticlips, one at each end, which clip directly to the fabric of your waistband—whether pants, leggings, shorts, sweatpants, or possibly a skirt. The clips distribute the firearm's weight across the band, but your clothing must be tight or structured enough to support it effectively.
The benefits of this setup include a hard trigger cover, placement of the gun for quick access, and it doesn’t require a belt so you can wear with a variety of clothing.
BELLY BAND
Belly bands can be worn on different parts of your torso for better comfort and/or concealment.
In spring, when outdoor activities like hiking, jogging, or casual outings become more frequent, bellyband holsters offer an excellent concealed carry solution for women. They are ideal for beltless clothing commonly worn in warmer weather, such as leggings, shorts, or skirts, providing a secure carry option without requiring belt loops.
This bellyband made by Mission First Tactical is a new favorite of mine. It’s made from a spongy, mesh-type material and has great air-flow to keep sweat from pooling under the band. The Medical Grade Hook & Loop fastener is also very unique - when I wore this with a pair of leggings, I noticed that the hooks didn’t snag my clothing. I think this is because the hooks have such a low profile, and yet, it secures to the other end of the band very strongly.
THIGH HOLSTER
If dresses and skirts are staples in your wardrobe, you may want to consider a thigh holster. While comfort varies based on body type and firearm size, I find this pair made by Dene Adams to be extremely comfortable and my capsule wouldn’t be complete without it.
Designed to fit securely like athletic shorts, these holsters prevent the firearm from slipping down your leg. They’re made with slick material which helps the firearm to slide comfortably between your thighs and prevents chafing.
CONCEALED CARRY PURSE
If you carry a purse, make it a concealed carry purse!
Purse concealed carry is comfortable, easy to hide, and eliminates the risk of the gun's shape showing through your clothing. Whether it’s your main mode of carry or your backup holster, a purse is extremely versatile. Besides completing your outfit, it can ensure you never leave your gun at home.
Just remember to be safe and know how to train with your bag. It typically takes longer to draw from a purse than it does from an appendix holster, so purse carry is more of an advanced skill.
It’s also key to purchase bag designed specifically for concealed carry - that includes a separate pocket for the gun and a holster which keeps it in place and covers the trigger.
CONCEALED CARRY LEGGINGS
Concealed carry leggings, like those from Dene Adams, are a practical and comfortable way to conceal carry in Spring.
These leggings feature a built-in holster pocket that secures a sub-compact pistol or smaller. You can easily add a trigger guard for safety, thanks to the belt loop tab – just attach your favorite IWB Kydex holster.
The leggings are crafted from a soft nylon blend that feels similar to double-brushed microfiber and they stretch and conform to a woman’s shape for all-day comfort. They are squat-test approved, which means they remain non-see-through, even when bending over. Keep your hands free by using the two side pockets for essentials like a cell phone, keys, credit cards, or pepper spray.
WHAT'S TRENDING FOR SPRING 2025?
Your personal style matters more than chasing short-term fashion trends. However, trends can be useful. Experimenting with them helps you discover what suits your unique look. Once your style is defined, incorporating a few trends can keep it fresh and current.
SILHOUETTE TRENDS
A decade ago, low-rise waistlines dominated, often revealing a sliver of skin between pants and shirt. As shirts lengthened to cover this gap, hems settled at the hips. Today, high-waisted pants and jeans are in vogue, paired with cropped shirts and cardigans that end at the natural waist rather than the hips. This shift creates a modern, streamlined silhouette but impacts concealed carry.
Impact on Concealed Carry - The new silhouette may alter how you position your firearm. High-waisted pants can improve concealment for some body types. For example, as someone with a short torso, I found mid- and high-waisted jeans more comfortable for concealing a firearm compared to low-rise styles. However, a cropped shirt may expose the firearm, especially when raising your arms or putting on a jacket.
Practical tips – Depending on how cropped your shirt is, you may need to position the gun higher on your torso. In this case, a bellyband is a good option.
When adopting new trends, test your holster setup at home before going public to ensure comfort and concealment.
FABRIC
This spring, key fashion materials include denim, lace, and sheer fabrics like chiffon, with suede making a strong appearance in accessories like shoes and bags. If you’re looking to refresh your wardrobe, adding a suede accessory is a budget-friendly option.
For concealed carry, suede jackets or denim button-up shirts are practical choices for hiding a firearm. Surprisingly, lace can also be effective. Despite its transparency, the intricate patterns can distract from firearm printing. A recommended approach is to wear a holster on your belt, layer a solid-colored tank top over it, and top it with a lace shirt. The tank alone may show some printing, but the lace adds camouflage to conceal the firearm.
Sheer fabrics like chiffon pose a challenge for concealment due to their transparency, but strategic choices, such as a shirt with chiffon sleeves, can maintain both style and discretion.
COLORS
Another affordable way to refresh your wardrobe is to add a versatile piece in one of Spring 2025’s trending colors: ice blue, pistachio green/mint, petal pink, butter yellow, lavender, red, or brown. Choosing an item you’ll wear often, like a scarf or bag, maximizes both style and value.
PRINTS
Classic patterns like stripes, thicker rugby stripes, and polka dots remain timeless, but are also considered “on trend” this season. Florals, a spring staple, are trending in softer, more subdued forms this season, featuring neutral or pastel tones rather than bold, contrasting designs. Three-dimensional floral embellishments, such as appliqués or embroidery, add texture and sophistication. Leopard print is also making a strong statement, offering a bold yet wearable option.
Practical Tip- Leverage patterns to enhance your wardrobe—use designs like florals or leopard print to distract from firearm printing, inspire your capsule wardrobe’s color palette, and showcase your personal style.

SKIRTS & DRESSES
Spring is all about skirts and dresses, and sundresses are stealing the show this season. Midi and maxi lengths are the go-to choices for 2025, with a softer, more subdued vibe compared to the bold, colorful bohemian and geometric maxi skirts we saw a decade ago. This year, think muted tones, gentle patterns, or even solid colors for a chic, understated look.
Don’t worry, short skirts haven’t gone anywhere—tennis skirts and pleated, cheerleader-inspired styles are super trendy right now, bringing a fun, sporty energy. For denim, longer midi or maxi skirts are having a moment, outshining their shorter counterparts. Dresses are getting playful too, with dropped-waist designs and voluminous bubble skirts for those who want to make a statement. If you’re looking for something versatile, flared skirts, slip dresses, and silky satin skirts are also in the mix, blending effortless elegance with modern flair.
Practical Tip- If you’re wondering how to carry concealed in a dress or skirt, don’t worry—there are great options! Belly bands, thigh holsters, and concealed carry purses make it possible. Check out my top picks in the Holster section below for some stylish and practical solutions.
PANTS
This season, pants are all about striking a “moderate” balance—think styles that are stylish but not extreme. Slim-cut jeans are trending, offering a fitted look that’s not as tight as the skinny jeans of the past. You’ll also see slightly flared, subtle boot-cut, gentle wide-leg, and relaxed barrel jeans.
High-waisted and mid-rise waistlines are dominating, which in my opinion, are more comfortable for concealed carry than low-rise.
As far as denim wash, distressing is minimal this year, if present at all. In fact, heavily distressed skinny jeans with lots of rips or intense whiskering feel a bit dated now.
Trousers are great for a dressier option. Some popular styles include slim and straight-fit dress pants with a subtle pleat near the waist, or flowy wide-leg dress pants.
Practical Tip – Use a belt and kydex holster or a bellyband with your high-waisted or mid-rise jeans and trousers. Wide-leg styles can also conceal an ankle holsters effectively.
SWEATERS
Sweaters are getting a fresh update. Say goodbye to waterfall cardigans and long, fine-knit cardigans with fitted sleeves, which are a bit dated. Fine knit button up sweaters with a cropped length are in style. Go for a cropped cardigan to match the season’s shorter hemlines. Equally in style are longer cardigans with chunky, textured fabrics and a relaxed fit. We’re also seeing ladylike sweaters, reminiscent to a coco chanel suit jacket.
Cropped fine-knit button-up sweaters are in, perfectly complementing the season’s shorter hemlines. For a more relaxed vibe, longer cardigans in chunky, textured fabrics are also trending.
Another standout this season is the ladylike sweater, reminiscent of a classic Coco Chanel suit jacket, adding a sophisticated touch to any wardrobe. These updated sweater styles pair beautifully with high-waisted jeans or flowy skirts, keeping your look fresh and on-trend.
Practical Tip: A loose-fitting, chunky cardigan is a great way to conceal a holster at your side or in the small of your back, while adding a fashionable layer to your outfit. If you need to remove a layer throughout the day, you can always transfer your firearm to a concealed carry purse.
TOPS
This spring, tank tops are shifting toward a more polished look. Instead of the typical spaghetti straps, opt for high-neck or crew-neck styles with thicker straps. These updated tanks pair well with high-waisted jeans, skirts, or can be layered under cropped cardigans.
Another standout trend is the voluminous, sheer blouse—an elegant choice that incorporates the sheer trend, while offering enough fabric to conceal a firearm.
Popular necklines include off-the-shoulder, mock neck, boat neck, crew, and V-neck, giving you plenty of options to choose from depending on your style.
Additionally, "baby t-shirts" or fitted tees are making a comeback. They may not be the best for concealing a Kydex appendix holster, but when paired with a skirt, they can work well with a thigh holster, and when combined with wide-leg trousers, they can effectively conceal an ankle holster.
Practical Tip: Make sure your capsule wardrobe includes “easy concealment tops” that reliably conceal your firearm with minimal effort. This will mean choosing a cut that both complements your body and hides the gun. You can still stay fashion-forward by selecting tops that features current neckline, pattern, color and fabric trends.
For additional comfort, wear a tank top under your shirt and tucked into your pants to prevent the gun from rubbing against your skin.
LEGGINGS
Leggings continue to be a wardrobe essential for Spring 2025, offering updated cuts and different ways of styling. Classic skin-tight silhouettes remain a staple, but we’re also seeing a fresh embrace of boot-cut and straight-leg styles.
While leggings can be styled to reflect your personal style, three main approaches have become especially popular: athletic looks built for performance, athleisure styles designed for everyday comfort, and elevated options that offer a more tailored, polished feel.
Practical Tip- For concealed carry, leggings with built-in holsters are an extremely comfortable and popular method. You can explore my top recommendations in the post: Best Concealed Carry Leggings for Women.
