Why Fall is the Best Season for Concealed Carry
Fall is one of the best and easiest seasons for concealed carry. Cozy layers, chunky knits, and structured jackets not only keep you warm, but they also make it easier to conceal your firearm. Unlike summer, when lightweight fabrics can cause printing, fall’s textures and heavier materials naturally work in your favor. And with September marking one of the biggest months in the fashion world, there’s no shortage of inspiration for fresh, seasonal style.
At Elegant & Armed, my mission has always been to show women that protection and style aren’t opposites but can work beautifully together. You are worth protecting, and your wardrobe should reflect that truth.
So, let’s put our best foot forward and build a cozy, versatile wardrobe to keep you stylish and prepared.

Benefits Of Cool Weather
As we step into Fall, we start to wear thicker clothing and more layers, which is helpful to prevent “printing,” or, showing an outline of the gun through your clothes. If you’re anything like me, this will increase your confidence, so let's take advantage of this!
Another thing to consider is that it might be possible to conceal a larger gun that you did during summer. Depending on what gun you’re “sizing up” from, a larger firearm could have the following benefits: it may hold more ammunition, shoot a more powerful caliber of bullet, and often it’s easier on the hands to shoot a larger firearm. So if you have more than one pistol, take this into consideration.
Concealed Carry for Women in the Fall: Common Challenges
Fall clothing generally makes concealment easier, yet some challenges still come up. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you plan your outfits.
T-shirt still conceals firearm when I remove the top layer.
Fluctuating Temperatures
Since fall is a transition season, there can be a lot of variety in the temperature. Mornings and evenings often feel very different from midday. You may need a jacket outdoors but remove it once you’re inside, which can reduce coverage for your carry setup. If you're relying on an outer layer to hide your firearm, be sure your it remains hidden when that layer comes off. Planning ahead is key to being prepared for such situations.
TheConcealment Camisoleis designed to reduce printing for women's concealed carry. Wear hidden under your blouse to prevent an outline of the gun showing OR on it's own with a blazer or sweater for warmth.
Windy Days
Crisp autumn air is one of the best parts of fall, but it can also be a little windy. Those gusts of air can shift lighter fabrics and risk exposing the outline of your firearm. If you’re wearing a blouse or other lightweight material, try pairing it with a more secure underlayer. A concealment camisole, for example, is designed to keep your firearm discreet and protected even on breezy days.
Layers and Accessibility
While layers are helpful for concealment, they can also slow down your draw if you’re not prepared. When getting dressed in the morning, try unloading your firearm and spending a few minutes on dry fire practice.
Draw several times to confirm you can access your gun quickly and that clothing features such as fabric, drawstrings, toggles, or zippers don’t interfere. When re-holstering, always look down to ensure nothing is blocking the holster or touching the trigger.
*These challenges aren’t deal-breakers. They’re simply reminders to think strategically about fabrics, layers, and the carry method that works best for your plans.

Quick Tips for Fall Carry- Test your outfit with and without layers to confirm full concealment
- Use secure underlayers (like a concealment camisole) on windy days
- Practice your draw daily when you try on new seasonal outfits
- Always double-check re-holstering to keep clothing clear of the trigger

Fall Wardrobe Staples for Concealed Carry
When building a fall capsule wardrobe that works seamlessly with your carry setup, here are must-have staples to consider. These timeless pieces not only elevate your style but also create reliable solutions to keep you cozy and confident.
Tank Tops
This might sound like a summer item, but it’s actually key for Fall if you want to be comfortable. Sometimes a holster or gun will chafe your skin, especially if the grip has a lot of texture. To protect your skin, try tucking a soft, cotton tank top behind the gun and holster. I think you’ll find it a lot more comfortable.
T-Shirts
T-shirts are especially nice in early fall when the mornings are cold, but the days are still hot! If you plan on removing a layer throughout the day, make sure the cut of your t-shirt is such that it still conceals the gun when you take your sweater or jacket off.
Your shirts don’t have to be plain white; instead, choose colors and patterns that coordinate with your sweaters, coats and jackets. This will help you style a larger variety of outfits. And as the weather cools down, you may want to transition to long sleeve t-shirts.

Chunky Sweaters & Cardigans
Fall is often referred to as “sweater weather,” and rightly so! Oversized or chunky knits are a must because they soften lines and naturally help hide printing, making them one of the most forgiving layers you can wear.
Beyond concealment, chunky knits are a classic part of a fall capsule wardrobe, giving you endless styling options.
Pairing a cozy sweater with jeans, a CCW belt, and a Kydex holster creates one of the most reliable and effortless fall concealed carry outfits
Structured Jackets & Coats
From tailored blazers to trench coats and leather jackets, outerwear offers excellent coverage and, when chosen thoughtfully, can complete your look. If you struggle with printing, the right jacket offers an easy solution, adding both coverage and confidence.
Jackets also work seamlessly with any carry method — whether you prefer a belt holster, a bellyband, or even a thigh holster under a skirt. And because they layer effortlessly, outerwear keeps you concealed while adapting to the changing temperatures of fall.
Jeans & Boots
Denim is a concealed carry essential because it is sturdy, structured, and forgiving. Jeans pair perfectly with a quality belt and holster, creating a reliable foundation for all-day carry.
Jeans and boots are also staple pieces for a fall capsule wardrobe, giving you versatility for casual weekends, office days, and evenings out. Just add ankle boots and you have a balanced, put-together outfit.
Leggings
Leggings are a comfortable fall favorite, and both skinny and boot cut styles are trending. The look has shifted away from simple loungewear toward more intentional, elevated styling; think athletic with a touch of polish.
Rather than defaulting to a sweatshirt, try pairing leggings with an oversized sweater, a long coat, or a tunic-length top that offers coverage in the back. Complete the outfit with trainers for casual days or riding boots for a more refined finish.
From a concealed carry perspective, standard leggings don’t provide much support for traditional holsters. In those cases, a concealed carry purse or a bellyband can make all the difference.
For an even more carry-friendly option, CCW leggings are designed with built-in holster pockets. They look and feel like everyday leggings while offering a secure way to carry your firearm without extra bulk.
Dress Pants
Whether you’re headed to work or out for the evening, classic dress pants offer the versatility every fall wardrobe needs. They add variety beyond what jeans can offer, giving you polished options when you want something more elevated.
Some styles include belt loops, which let you use a belt and Kydex holster. Others don’t provide as much support, and in those cases a bellyband can be a practical solution.
This balance of style and function makes dress pants a reliable option in your fall clothes for concealed carry.
Holsters: Choosing the Right Concealed Carry Gear for your Outfits
You only need one holster to begin carrying, and when you start there, build outfits around that setup so concealment is consistent and reliable. That said, having a few options gives you freedom to dress for different looks and activities without sacrificing comfort or safety.
The right gear makes all the difference in how confident you feel. Below are the go-to carry solutions I recommend for fall, and how each pairs with seasonal clothing.
Belt + Kydex Holster
- Why it works: This is the most common, dependable setup for pants with belt loops such as jeans or slacks. A quality concealed carry belt keeps the holster stable and the gun accessible.
- Pros: Secure, fast access, good retention, works with most belt-looped pants.
- Cons: Not ideal with very soft, unsupported waistbands or skirts.
- Style tips: Choose a low-profile holster with a wing and a structured belt that looks like a real fashion belt rather than a utility strap. Conceal the firearm with a top made from thick material or that includes a concealment feature such as a ruffle
CCW Purses & Crossbody Bags
- Why it works: Purses are perfect for days you’re not wearing a belt, or the outfit doesn’t support on-body carry. A good CCW bag includes a separate holster compartment dedicated to the firearm.
- Pros: Versatile across outfits, easy to switch between purses, discreet.
- Cons: Requires mindful bag control; a purse that’s not secured can be dropped or grabbed.
- Style tips: Choose a bag that fits your style and includes a dedicated firearm compartment. For fall, brown leather complements the seasonal palette.
Bellybands
- Why it works: A bellyband wraps around the torso and works well with dresses and bottoms that lack belt loops. It is especially helpful with stretchy athletic shorts, leggings, and drawstring pants.
- Pros: Multiple carry positions on your torso, stretch for comfort, easy to wear with non-belted garments. The compression often makes it easier to avoid printing, even with fitted shirts.
- Cons: May shift if not sized properly, gun pocket is not stiff and structured.
- Style tips: Pair a bellyband with fitted, but not skin-tight tops to avoid printing when you remove a coat indoors.
Thigh Holster
- Why it works: Thigh holsters are an excellent option for skirts and dresses, especially when appendix carry isn’t an option. They keep the firearm low and away from the waistline, which allows you to wear fit-and-flare silhouettes while still keeping your gun accessible.
- Pros: Great for skirts and dresses; comfortable with fabric protecting the leg.
- Cons: Generally takes more practice to draw the firearm quickly and smoothly.
- Style tips: Decide on pocket placement based on your wardrobe. An outer-thigh pocket works well with fuller skirts, while an inner-thigh pocket stays more discreet under pencil or form-fitting styles. Practice getting in and out of your car and sitting to confirm comfort and retention.
*New update: We’ve added the Thigh Holster 2.0, which includes an additional pocket at the waistband, giving you even more versatility with skirts. This design lets you choose whether to access your firearm from under the skirt or from under your top, whichever feels more natural with your outfit.
CCW Leggings & Dress Pants (Built-In Holster Pockets)
- Why it Works: These garments are designed specifically for concealment, giving you the comfort of leggings or the polish of dress pants with carry functionality built in. For fall, they layer easily under long sweaters, tunics, or coats, making them both practical and versatile.
- Pros: Streamlined appendix carry without a belt, comfortable, laundry-friendly options exist.
- Cons: Fit is critical. If the garment shifts, so will the firearm. Always follow the manufacturer’s sizing guidance and check retention before wearing out.
- Style tips: Opt for leggings made from thick, structured fabrics that hold their shape. Pair them with a jacket or longer top that offers coverage for a polished, elevated look. With CCW dress pants, choose styles with reinforced waistbands or built-in compression. These details improve support and help conceal seamlessly under blouses, sweaters, or other work-appropriate tops.

Current Fall Trends & How They Work for Concealed Carry
Personal style will always matter more than chasing trends, but trends can be very fun to play with. They're also be helpful in discovering your style, refining it over time, and keeping your wardrobe looking current rather than dated.
The key is to choose trends that align with your style or that you’re genuinely interested in exploring.
Here are the standout fall trends this year, along with how each one can complement your concealed carry wardrobe
Oversized Coats
Big coats are everywhere this fall, and they’re incredibly practical for concealed carry. The extra fabric and relaxed fit give you generous coverage, which means you can comfortably use a belt and kydex holster without worrying about printing.
This season also leans into coats with exaggerated features, from bombers with oversized fur collars to cropped jackets with puffier sleeves and extra long cuffs.
Those dramatic details create visual interest that distracts the eye from any printing and they provide extra space and coverage for your firearm.
Of course, any time you add volume or extra fabric its smart to practice your draw. Preferably in that exact outfits so you can move smoothly and safely when you need to.
Wide-Leg Trousers
Loose, wide-leg pants are one of the biggest trends this fall, and they can work beautifully for concealed carry. The silhouette balances your proportions and naturally draws the eye downward, which helps minimize attention on your waistband.
The cut and waistband structure will help determine the type of holster to use.
- If the style has belt loops and a firm waistband, a belt and Kydex holster is probably the most secure option.
- If the waist is drawstring or elastic, a bellyband performs better.
- Wide-leg hems give you the option of using an ankle holster.
Keep your body type in mind when selecting the width. Some women look great in voluminous trousers that create dramatic movement, while others shine in a gentle wide leg for a more subtle look. Try both tailored and relaxed versions to find what looks and feels best.
Equestrian Boots
Knee-high and riding boots are making a strong comeback this season. While boots themselves aren’t a concealment piece, they play an important role in balancing out the proportions of your outfit. A well chosen boot can make an entire look feel intentional and put-together.
This year, women are styling riding boots in a few standout ways.
- One of the most popular pairings is with skirts and dresses of all lengths (from midis to pencil skirts to minis) often layered with tights for warmth and polish.
- An especially eye-catching combination is straight-leg or relaxed jeans tucked into tall boots, which creates a modern equestrian-meets-aviator look.
- Tall boots are also being styled with leggings, often paired with oversized sweaters or knit dresses to keep the proportions balanced.
Statement Skirts
Statement skirts are having a major moment this fall, especially in fabrics like tweed, suede, calf hair, and other rich textures. These pieces add depth and personality to your wardrobe as well as variety.
From a concealed carry perspective, skirts can be surprisingly practical. A thigh holster keeps your firearm close and discreet under fuller silhouettes, while a bellyband provides secure waist-level carry for more fitted styles.
In fact, the new Thigh Holster 2.0 takes this versatility even further, featuring an additional gun pocket at the waist. This design lets you decide whether you want to access your firearm from under the skirt or from under your top, depending on your outfit.
- This season, women are pairing statement skirts with tall riding boots, a look that feels both polished and practical for fall.
- let the skirt take center stage, keep the rest of your outfit simple with a slim sweater or neutral blouse.
Suede & Texture Rich Materials
Suede, rich leather, embroidery, and texture-heavy fabrics are making waves again this fall. Designers are showcasing them in everything from skirts and jackets to handbags and statement accessories.
For concealed carry, texture has practical advantages. The irregular surfaces and heavier fabrics naturally distract the eye from any printing, making it harder to spot the outline of your firearm.
Suede jackets, quilted skirts, and embroidered coats not only look chic but also provide an extra layer of visual camouflage. In many cases, these fabrics are also thicker and sturdier, which offers more reliable coverage than lightweight materials.
- Adding one or two textured pieces to your fall capsule wardrobe is an easy way to both freshen your style and make carrying more discreet.
